Jarrah Mantelpiece Commision.

JARRAH MANTELPIECE COMMISSION. Melbourne, Vic, Australia. 2012.

Jarrah mantelpiece commission for private home. The client had very specific requirements to the type of timber and size of the mantelpiece. The dimensions were large for a single piece of reclaimed timber. The mantelpiece measured 75 mm thick by 300 mm deep by 1850 mm long. We spent a day searching through several Melbourne timber yards and just as we were about to call it a day we found this piece rough sawn at the bottom of a pile. There was a great amount of time put into the sanding and finish of this piece. All cracks and surface imperfections were meticulously resin filled and very finely sanded back to 5000 grit wet and dry sandpaper. The piece was sealed with three coats of Danish Oil and cut back with 5000 grit between each coat for a mirror finish. It was also damn heavy!

BENCHTOP & CABINETRY for "BROTHER ALEC" CAFE. Thornbury, Melbourne, Australia.

Reclaimed Mountain Ash and Jarrah. Hoop Pine drawer fronts and Melamine carcass. I try and avoid any use of Melamine and MDF but the client specified that they needed a sealed and easily cleanable surface on a budget.
